Rediscover Joyful Eating

Are You An Emotional Eater?

Is it your go-to way of coping when you're upset or stressed or just plain bored?

You're not alone. Life can be challenging. And we're wired to avoid pain and seek pleasure, like the comfort of eating our favorite foods.

But if it's is keeping you from achieving your weight loss goals and you want to stop, try this.

Instead of thinking of yourself as an emotional eater, how about... you're someone who has a habit of eating to avoid dealing with unpleasant emotions? In other words, it's just something you do.

Now rather than having to change who you are, we simply need to tweak your emotional eating habit by doing one of the following:

 Reframing Your Interpretations

 Creating A New Routine

 Processing Your Emotions

Are You An Emotional Eater?

Is it your go-to way of coping when you're upset or stressed or just plain bored?

You're not alone. Life can be challenging. And we're wired to find pleasure in eating our favorite comfort foods. But if it's keeping you from achieving your weight loss goals and you want to stop, here are three options you'll want to try:

Create A New Routine. When you're triggered, choose a different course of action. This could be counting to ten, deep breathing, or going for a walk and getting some fresh air.

Practice reframing. Chances are, when you're triggered, you think it's because of the situation. But it's actually your thoughts about the situation that are causing your distress and, most of the time, there's a way to reframe it that better serves you.

Process Your Emotions. There are times when your interpretation of a situation is spot on. In those cases, your ability to sit with those emotions rather than stuffing them down is key. Only then will you be able to response, rather than react. As Oscar Wilde once said, "The best way out is always through."

When it comes to habits like emotional eating, we've been told the trigger is a time, place, person, emotional state or event. But the real trigger is actually your thoughts - a belief or interpretation - that drives your emotions and sets everything in motion.

Mastering your triggers is about your ability to choose your response, and it's the key to breaking old habits that no longer serve you as well as building new ones that do.

It's a skill that few of us were taught, but so important to have. Now in Thoughts Are Habits Too, you'll find out the exact steps to master your triggers so you can free yourself from diet culture, heal your relationship with food, and rediscover joyful eating.

FREE Limited-Time Bonus: To help you apply and integrate the concepts, when you purchase Thoughts Are Habits Too, you'll get the Stop Emotional Eating Masterclass.

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT FOR THE LAST TIME

All three of the above options involve tweaking a habit, and the first step you need to take is to identify the trigger.

When it comes to habits like emotional eating, you may think the trigger is a time, place, person, preceding event, or emotional state. As a matter of fact, this is how James Clear explained triggers in his book, Atomic Habits.

But the real trigger for any habit is actually your thoughts - a belief or interpretation - that drives your emotions and sets everything in motion.

Want to break an old habit? Build a new healthy one?

Master your triggers.

Mastering your triggers is about becoming aware of your thoughts and your ability to evaluate them so you can consciously choose your response. It's truly the key to breaking old habits that no longer serve you as well as building new ones that do.

Unfortunately, it's a skill that few of us were taught, but so important to have.

Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

–  Viktor E. Frankl

QUICK QUESTION (THAT MIGHT NOT HAVE THE ANSWER YOU EXPECT…)

Why have your past weight loss efforts failed?

You've been told over and over again that the way to lose weight is through restriction ― whether it's limiting calories, tracking points, avoiding carbs, or taking expensive appetite-suppressing weight loss drugs with some rather unpleasant side effects.

And every time the diet or weight loss program hasn't worked, you blame yourself.

"What's wrong with me? Why can't I stay on track?"

That's exactly what the diet and weight loss industries want you to think, as opposed to "Why is this approach unsustainable?"

THE REAL CULPRITS

The success rate of customers using the products offered by the diet and weight loss industry is only around 5%. Their programs are inherently flawed.

Seriously, can you imagine if airlines successfully landed only 5% of their planes and then blamed the passengers? Of course not!

To make matters worse, the diet culture we're immersed wants you to believe that your self-worth is dependent on the size and shape of our body, and the marketers for the dieting industry take full advantage of this belief that "you're not good enough" unless you lose the weight and shrink your body.

So you tell yourself, "When I lose the weight, then I'll be happy... then I'll be able to feel good about myself and my body."

It's no wonder you want so desperately to shed unwanted fat as fast as you can and struggle to resist the intoxicating pull of comfort and certainty of short-term results from highly regimented programs.

But endless diets and disparaging your body and yourself aren't the answer.

The key to lasting weight loss is coming from a place of self-love and focusing on self-care habits. And the best part? You get to rediscover joyful eating!

Thoughts Are Habits Too is now available on Audible, narrated by yours truly.

Hi there!

I'm Amy.

I'm a master certified health and nutrition coach, host of Happy & Healthy with Amy Podcast, and founder of Moxie Club.

I've helped thousands of women master their triggers so they can stop emotional eating, heal their relationship with food, and create healthy habits that stick.

Looking back, my weight loss and body image struggles started when I was about 14 years old.

When this picture was taken, I actually thought my waistline was too big.

Like you, I've felt the frustration of watching the number on the scale ratchet upwards, the hope when it moved downwards, and the defeat when it drifted upwards - over and over again.

As soon as I learned that how I was approaching weight loss was actually making things worse and how to free myself from diet culture, self-care finally made sense, and lasting weight loss became easy and inevitable.

But It literally took me years to figure out how to do this... to lose weight so I was taking care of my physical health, without harming my mental and emotional health.

That's why I wrote this book ― to save you the time, energy and heartache so you, too, can get off the weight loss struggle bus.
